Our stay was good in some ways but not so great in others. First off, we arrived at the hotel at 7:35 AM after almost 24 hours of trying to get there. We were exhausted. Unfortunately, our travel agent did not request early check in for us. Despite this, I do strongly feel that an effort should have been made on the part of the staff to prepare a room for us as soon as it was available to be cleaned but they didn't. In fact, I felt like the person at the front desk actually dug his heels in on this and became unnecessarily oppositional because I requested that they try to get a room ASAP. By check in time, the lobby was actually full of people who were in the same position as we were and several of us had fallen asleep while waiting. Not a good look for the hotel. When you're exhausted from traveling, the last thing you want to do is run around the city to see the sights which is what we were told to do by the guy at the desk! I do believe that housekeeping could have been instructed to prepare as many rooms as possible to get people settled and out of the lobby. To make matters worse, several people who arrived after us but before the 3:00 check in time were allowed to go to their rooms! That was a real slap in the face for those of us sitting there. We did walk around Grass Market for a bit in the early morning but we had 8 hours to wait on top of almost an entire day of flying and waiting in airports to arrive. I feel like no one went out of their way to make the start of our holiday pleasant. As far as the room goes, it was comfortable enough. The sofa needs replacing. The provided amenities were appreciated. It's nice that there were charging ports available but nowadays, people need "C" charging ports, not just"A" ports. The breakfasts were very good and we had dinner in the restaurant once, which was good. There was a singer in the bar who was very good. We enjoyed her performance. Overall, the stay was fine. It was the beginning that was frustrating and unwelcoming which was quite a disappointment.

There was a strange noise all night, it sounded like a huge sheet blowing around in the wind. Made it hard to sleep properly. Paid £260 for the night so this was extremely disappointing. The room was also very cold, and the duvet was very thin. The room decor was tired so could do with an upgrade.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Novotel. It’s a nice hotel, very well located, and our room was clean and comfortable. However, we had two minor issues, which are the reason I haven’t rated our experience more highly. We had arranged a late check-out at 1:30 pm. At around 1:20 pm, a member of the housekeeping staff came to the room and was a little rude in her manner, clearly showing that she was unhappy that we were still using the room, even though we still had 10 minutes before our agreed check-out time. To be honest, we found this quite frustrating, particularly as the late check-out had been agreed in advance. Also, when we were leaving, there was a small queue at reception. I noticed the check-out box and briefly asked whether I could simply drop the key there and leave. It was just a quick yes or no question. The receptionist answered me but also pointed out, in a slightly unfriendly manner, that she was attending to another guest. This was a very minor incident, and I completely understand that reception staff can be busy and that additional questions can be disruptive. However, as I only wanted to confirm whether I could leave the key in the box, I felt the situation could have been handled a little more courteously. Overall, we had a good experience and enjoyed our stay. These were just two relatively small incidents where we felt that the manner of some members of staff could have been a little more welcoming and courteous.

Chose the Edinburgh Novotel due to the advertised facilities, over other hotels that would have been better priced. The pool itself was cool, it was OK but defintely not up to expected temperature, the Jacuzzi was not functioning, and the STEAM room also wasnt working, the boost button outside the room having zero effect on the temperature. I raised these issues to the duty manager online during my stay, but had no response at all. I feel that I have now come away having paid over the odds for a hotel that was misleading people about available facilties.
