I really wanted to love our stay at Sofitel Dubai The Palm, but unfortunately there were far too many disappointments for what is meant to be a 5-star hotel.
We originally booked a Luxury Room Sea View, and the room pictured when booking was very different from what we were given on arrival. Our first room was dusty, very dirty, worn bedding and had a noticeable smell, with what was essentially a large pebble-covered area directly outside rather than the sea view we had expected. The cleaning manager came to the room, apologised and acknowledged that the condition was not what they would expect.
We were told that because we had arrived early, the hotel had effectively done us a favour by giving us a room before normal check-in. However, I had specifically said that we were completely happy to wait until the normal check-in time for the room we had actually booked and would head to the beach. We then spent the entire first day trying to get moved, which really put a dampener on the start of our holiday.
Unfortunately, the replacement room still wasn’t what we had booked either. The view was primarily of the hotel entrance, with a small amount of sea visible through palm trees. What was most disappointing was the lack of any meaningful apology or gesture to acknowledge what had happened, but as we were exhausted from travelling and the first room ordeal we stayed in this room for convenience.
There have also been issues with the general condition of the hotel. The corridors frequently smell damp and some areas feel quite dated and tired for a property marketed as 5-star.
Our experience at Moana was another disappointment. Despite empty tables, service was extremely slow. I waited around 30 minutes for a can of 7Up, which actually arrived after my food. The signature Kiev was incredibly dry and my friend couldn’t eat it. The 7Up also cost around £8, which felt particularly hard to swallow given the overall experience.
Another thing that has unfortunately stood out is that some interactions with staff have felt quite transactional. On several occasions, staff have been lovely, but we’ve then immediately been handed a card asking for a good review. On our second-to-last day, our cleaner Mazedul, left flowers, which was a lovely gesture, but this was accompanied by a review card and then followed by coming back for a tip. It took away from what could have been a genuinely thoughtful gesture because it felt as though there was an expectation attached to it.
There have been positives. The six complimentary bottles of water in the room were very generous, the coffee at breakfast was delicious, and I genuinely have to say that the bed is probably the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept in. The pillows in particular were incredible, I’d happily buy them!
Overall though, for the price and the standard we expected from a Sofitel, the experience has been disappointing. The biggest issue wasn’t that everything was perfect or that something went wrong, it’s that when things did go wrong, we didn’t feel that the hotel made any real effort to put them right.
I wouldn’t expect perfection from a hotel, but I would expect a 5-star property to listen when a guest has a legitimate issue, take ownership of it and make them feel valued. Sadly, we haven’t felt that during this stay.

I also appreciate your feedback regarding the interactions with our staff. While we encourage our team to provide exceptional service, it is vital that every engagement feels genuine and unpressured. I will address this matter with our team to promote a more heartfelt approach.

We have been visiting Dubai for many, many years but this was our first stay at Sofitel The Palm. As this was a last minute booking for myself and my husband, our brief was pretty simple - a fab hotel, with wonderful food and drink and 10 nights of relaxing. That brief was met, and we enjoyed a wonderful break, albeit there were a few minor “niggles”, which I will mention later on. I genuinely believe that the staff at the Sofitel 100% make this hotel … it’s rare in Dubai to find a hotel/resort of this size where EVERY member of staff we encountered were truly amazing - friendly, engaging and keen to please all guests (regardless of some wants/demands, going by what we witnessed from fellow guests !!). We booked a Prestige Suite (we were allocated room 4173 which was perfectly located). We stayed Half Board, with Premier Lounge access. The suite was very spacious for the two of us, with an exceptionally comfortable bed and large balcony overlooking the main pool. Kayzin in housekeeping was wonderful, keeping our suite beautifully clean and tidy and making sure we had everything we needed - she was a lovely, friendly and obliging young lady - thank you Kayzin. We appreciated all your hard work. Observations regarding the room would however be that it was very dark generally, and the lack of hanging space for a suite of that size was very evident - and that was just with two adults in the room (had our daughter also been with us, the wardrobe space/dressing area would have been wholly unsuitable). Moving on to dining, breakfast was available for us in the Premier Lounge, or the main buffet area Manava which could get rather busy and congested. At the weekends, when the hotel was busier with “staycation” visitors, Porterhouse was also serving breakfast which was a nice alternative. Manava also served buffet meals in the evening, which we visited twice and thoroughly enjoyed the offerings there. We ate one evening in The World Eatery but didn’t return there (primarily because we found it too noisy). We were disappointed Hong Loong was closed. Moana just re-opened as we arrived and we enjoyed two wonderful meals there, served by wonderful staff (thanks to Shekinah, Mr Kumald Umesh and special thanks to Kristen (a beautifully friendly and natural in hospitality, all the way from South Africa) - she really made our anniversary evening extra special in every way. We also enjoyed a number of meals at Porterhouse- again the food quality and service were just wonderful and drew us back for more ! Despite all staff at Sofitel being wonderfully friendly, the absolute standout for us was 100% the Premier Lounge - a huge thank you to each and every one of them who took exceptional care of us every day, from breakfast service, afternoon tea, evening drinks and canapés and also after dinner coffee … and I know you should never have favourites, but Jaber went above and beyond to ensure our time in the Lounge was flawless and memorable - what an amazing young man who deserves to go far - very special thanks to Jaber. Overall, we truly had a wonderful and very enjoyable break. Sadly, moving on to the minor “niggles”, our observations (based on visiting a large number of Dubai hotels and resorts for many years and previous experiences and expectations), were:-
* No welcome drink on arrival (and no dedicated check-in or check-out area for Club Lounge guests)
* No ice bags around the pool, containing cold bottles of water / no complimentary ice lollies or fresh fruit sticks
* No turn-down service
* Main reception lacked the WOW factor when walking in and, personally, we would expect/far prefer to see a large fresh and fragrant flower arrangement, vibrant in colour (the dried flower arrangement currently in situ are a very poor alternative sadly)
* Given the size of the resort, we had hoped and expected some “adult only” areas, particularly at least one suitable pool - that was a big disappointment for us

The entire team was incredibly welcoming, professional and attentive throughout my stay. I especially appreciated the attention to detail, the organization and the overall guest experience. The hotel is beautiful, very well maintained, and truly feels like an escape while still offering everything you need.

Hi,
This was our first family stay at Sofitel, and we absolutely loved it! We were travelling from London back to Australia and only stayed for one night, but we already wished we had booked longer.
The variety of pools was fantastic for both the kids and us as parents, and our room (7610) was spacious, beautifully presented and had spectacular panoramic views.
The staff were exceptional from the moment we arrived. Special thanks to Samuel at the entrance and the wonderful check-in team for their warm and professional service.
One small suggestion: it would be great if drinks were included with the half-board dinner package. We also noticed there was no beach access at night(not for swimming but for an evening walk after dinner for fresh air) , although we completely understand if this is for security reasons.
We regularly visit Dubai and have stayed at Atlantis yearly for the past few years. We decided to try Sofitel this time, and we are so glad we did. We will definitely return and hopefully stay much longer in room 7610!

The bedding was scratchy to the skin and the staff is friendly always asked us if we needed anything. There are not many amenities in the hotel, and the food in the buffet breakfast was always the same.
