Despite its history and fantastic location, the experience of living in The Empress was disappointing. The room was compact, only one person benefitted from a bedside table, and the queues for breakfast were impossibly long. At least the nearby coffee shops were able to provide what the hotel couldn't.

I arrived for conference. Before arriving I went mountain biking in Cumberland. I called twice a day before arriving and the same day of arrival in the morning. The person from Fairmont said that there should be shower and change room if my room isn't ready. Nothing was ready and I had to change in front of entrance of Fairmont and go dirty to the conference session.

This was to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The Hotel is very nice and the majority of staff were truly excellent. However breakfast was a total nightmare, after being seated we waited 20mins to be served. The waiter Joseph was truly excellent as he could see that we had been waiting far too long and he jumped in to help. The lady's hosting breakfast were very shabbily dressed and looked unkempt and did not look interested at all in their role. Very disappointing. We now have an issue with our Bill. All was paid correctly at time of checkout now we see another amount has been added to our bank account. Very poor for a supposedly world class Hotel.

The staff couldn't have been nicer! We stayed there twice, actually, on the 14th and again on the 17th. The first time, there were large fans going full time up and down our hallway. Obviously, a water issue of some kind made this necessary. The second time, we were on the same floor but the fans remained inside rooms, and thus were not so loud. At my request upon arriving, a shower chair was delivered right away, which I appreciated! The room looked a little tired, and the beds were squishy and squeaky, odd for such a luxury hotel chain. However, the breakfasts and the waitstaff in the restaurant were wonderful.

Lovely staff at the Empress. We stayed in a one bedroom suite and we were a little surprised that the bathroom only had one sink, tiny closet. and only one side of the bed had a bedside table.

Really enjoyed the hotel - perfect location and felt special. The hotel itself is lovely and feels very chic. The first night we stayed with a city view and then had a harbour view the second night. The harbour view room was tired and needed some work - especially in the bathroom.
Most of the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful - especially at reception and breakfast. Unfortunately some less friendly and welcoming staff waitressing in the bar and in the parking attendant box of the car park which did taint the experience.
Bed was really comfortable and room felt clean.
Overall enjoyed our stay but just didn’t quite live up to my expectations overall.

Food excellent in the Gold Room and in the so called dining room where the noise was extremely loud and the music left a lot to be desired. There were 4 of us at dinner and we would have been smart to leave the hotel for dinner dining. There is not much dining space compared to the old and elegant dining room and the noise as I said, put a stop to conversation. would you not use the tea room for the evening dinner time. I know the tea stops I believe at 7PM, but having to yell above the bar drinkers in this establishment is dreadful--no class!
We were on the Gold Floor and enjoyed having a view of the harbor. Room was fine, but extremely small and the bathroom needed a new sink as the sink itself had a crack in it. Not too healthy, shower was good. I know that bathrooms were much smaller in the years that they built the hotel, but when the renovations were done the architect made a mistake with the size of the bathrooms!!!
The stay over all was pleasant and the pool facility and gym were great. Though that the room was over-price for what we got. The Gold floor being enlarged was a winner and the best room in the house!!!

From check-in to check-out my experience at the Fairmont was fabulous. Any interaction with staff members was pleasant and hassle free. I had breakfast at the Bengal, drinks on the Veranda, quick travel drink & treats from Dash and afternoon tea. The food and drink options are plentiful and delicious. Not mention the rich history and beauty of the Empress!

carpet at elevator and other areas in halls need replaced. Disappointed at the number of dogs in the hotel, especially large ones. After checking in we were walking to the elevator to go to the room and there was dog poop on the floor. For such an expensive hotel this was disappointing.
