Bonjour Ms. B., We are sorry to learn that this stay did not reflect the level of service and condition you have come to expect from Sofitel New York. We regret in particular that the desk outlets were not repaired during your stay and that the condition of the bathtub gave the room a worn impression, especially at the rate paid. We are also very sorry for the breakfast experience. Waiting that long in the morning, particularly while traveling for business, is understandably frustrating and not the standard we aim to provide. We booked the hotel for two nights to host an important meeting. My sleep was interrupted by returning half of my laundry at 10pm. The other half was there already. There is no option to get laundry returned before 8pm, aside from giving it by 6pm the night before. In a city like NYC it's mad that there is no better option. For the meeting space booking, this did not go well. It started pre-arrival with a crazy statement that we can only book coffee for a minimum of 15 people. There were 4 of us. On site, I was told that I couldn't take my own coffee in to the meeting room. Ordering a coffee in the room was fine, but would include a $400 charge to begin with. I later was told that there are union rules but honestly that's not my issue... it's your job to make this work for the guest. Communication of these union rules ahead of time could have lessened the damage. If told at the time of booking then we would have factored the additional cost in to the overall value proposition. You missed that opportunity however. A member of housekeeping left a few bits of cleaning product inside my room one day. On the plus side, service staff at breakfast were lovely.

hotel had accidentally booked my 1 room reservation as two, but promptly issued a credit for the error. No runaround. Front desk reception staff seemed also very responsive to others that were in line at the same time (a missing package, change in reservation).

After receiving emails about the newly renovated hotel, we were disappointed upon stepping inot our room. As a Platinium member with Accor, no recognition at reception and no better room for an upgrade. The original room was larger than the upgrade offered.

Bonjour Mr. B., We are sorry that your stay did not reflect the experience you expected, particularly following our recent renovation. Your comments regarding the finer details in the room are especially concerning, including the condition of the shower area, silicone, flooring, skirting, furniture setup, and overall presentation. These are precisely the kinds of details that should have been identified and corrected before the room was occupied, and your feedback has been shared with both our Housekeeping and Engineering teams. We also regret that your ALL status was not properly recognized at arrival. While room upgrades remain subject to availability, the recognition itself should always be clear and consistent, and we understand your disappointment that the alternative room offered did not feel like an improvement. Your feedback regarding the breakfast offering and service has also been shared with our Food & Beverage team. We understand your concern that the limitations of the included breakfast were not clear prior to arrival and that the experience did not feel as flexible as expected. The room was comfortable, especially the bed! However the decor is in desperate need of a refresh…the door was missing wood on the bottom and in need of repair, it looked tired. Also, no flat sheet in the bed! Just the comforter, which I am sure is not washed in between guests.

I have stayed at numerous Sofitel hotels - including the one at Paris Faubourg which was spectacular and rivals my experiences at the Rosewood, Four Seasons, and Ritz Carlton hotels. The NYC Sofitel is terribly managed. I can’t believe it’s a Sofitel hotel, and I will never stay there again and have already spread the word with colleagues and friends about my terrible experience. As context, I stayed at the NYC Sofitel to celebrate my 50th birthday. One manager in particular was awful. I believe her name was Mariawara (sp?). I told her numerous times the AC was broken and she would not believe me. Fortunately, I happened to be in the room when an honest engineer said it was broken and the room needed to be vacated for it to be fixed properly. I told Mariawara this, and she refused to believe it - she kept thinking I was asking for a room upgrade instead of just fixing the AC. I understand she may be cynical about guests, but it’s really tiring and a waste of time to deal with a manager like that, especially since I travel often and have experienced great service. After my sibling who is a business executive finally intervened, Mariawara at least seemed to say she understood that the AC was broken. Despite that, she didn’t have the engineer fix it because she said he was the only engineer on site (too busy) or call in additional support. It’s fine if the hotel was sold out. I just wanted the AC fixed. Instead, her solution was to run the AC all day long. This was a huge waste of my time and a real dark cloud over my birthday weekend. I slept terribly all four nights. I did not go back to Mariawara because I had already missed one birthday even talking to her, and I was not interested in wasting more time with her and missing the rest of the weekend. To be clear, Jasmin, another manager, seemed like she had a great attitude and was helpful the first night, but she unfortunately was not around later that weekend. This easily is the worst hotel experience I have ever had, and it was even more disappointing given that this was a special birthday weekend.

I can understand how frustrating it must have been to spend part of your birthday weekend trying to address the A/C concern and feeling that the situation was not being resolved as clearly or efficiently as you expected. I am especially sorry for the confusion and miscommunication that occurred throughout those interactions and for the impact this had on your comfort and overall experience. A special occasion should feel effortless and enjoyable, and I regret that instead, this became a source of stress and took time away from your celebration. I also appreciate you recognizing Jasmin and the assistance she provided during your stay. I will be sure to share your kind comments with her. Stayed a week during a business trip. Everything was smooth. Only thing which was not satisfactory was the breakfast, where did not see any value/flexibility.

Room wasn't ready despite waiting for 1+ hour Toothbrush was not sent on time

Upon my check in at 6am, I was greeted by a staff member who was less than pleased to be dealing with guest at this time. He seemed to be annoyed that I was checking in and failed to notify me of any perks related to my check in as an American Express platinum card member. I also wasn’t provided with any basic check in amenities such as water bottles that are provided to all guest upon check in to obtain water in the hallways. The housekeeping staff was pleasant as well as the breakfast staff at the cafe however most other staff members we encountered just seemed annoyed. For this being a 4 diamond hotel I was surprised by staffs lack of engagement. Having worked at a 5 diamond resort in California the difference from our standards to this hotels was inexcusable.

Regardless of the hour, you should have been welcomed with warmth and professionalism, and we regret that this was not the experience you received. These are details that should have been handled more carefully from the beginning of your stay. Very comfortable stay. Good clean room good bedding and nice bathroom. Would have preferred kettle in room for tea and coffee(Uk thing, we like a cup of tea as soon as we wake). Breakfast was good but multiple options of buffet or mix and match would be better. A huge portion of one dish wears off after a couple of days. Would be nice to be able to have one pancake with small portion of fruit or mix of pastries toast, bacon etc. Air on a bit noisy clicking on and off. Well located for all major attractions and subway. All staff were excellent. We felt it was good value for the offering given New York prices.

Sofitel in midtown NYC is one of my go to hotel stays for work and play. The rooms are not small in NY terms, and they are very well appointed. The service is excellent and the location can't be beat - close to everything but not loud and in the middle of the chaos. The only thing I miss is the free coffee urns down in the restaurant - I appreciate the fact that there are coffee makers in the rooms but I really prefer to fill up a mug with fresh made coffee downstairs in a hotel.
